From the moment fans started filling the arena, there was a noticeable excitement throughout the building, with people singing along, taking pictures with friends and waiting for the lights to finally go down. Wolf Alice opened the night with a strong set before the entire arena quickly shifted into full Olivia Rodrigo mode.
Once Rodrigo hit the stage, the energy immediately went up another level. The stage was filled with flowers, matching the visual theme of the tour, and the production made the arena feel like more than just a concert venue. At one point, flower-scented fumes were pumped throughout the arena, adding another unexpected detail to the experience and making fans feel even more surrounded by the world Rodrigo had created onstage.
The production continued to be one of the biggest parts of the night, especially during the rain sequence. Water came down around Olivia and completely changed the look of the B stage, and with the rain came the dissolving dress. Where Rodrigo's outfit became part of the production and appeared to disappear as the water fell over her creating for a moment for fans that left them in awe.
Rodrigo moved through songs from SOUR, GUTS and her newest material, with tracks like “good 4 u,” “deja vu,” “bad idea right?” and “vampire” bringing some of the loudest reactions of the night. When “drivers license” came on, the arena practically turned into one giant singalong, with fans screaming every word back toward the stage while thousands of phones filled the air.
A big part of the show was Rodrigo's live performance and the rock influence behind it. She spent plenty of time playing guitar alongside her band, giving many of the songs a louder and more energetic sound than their studio versions, while the production constantly changed the mood around her. One moment the crowd was jumping and screaming, and the next everyone was holding their phones up and singing along to one of the more emotional songs.
What made the night stand out was how much the audience became part of the show. Fans knew the words to nearly every song, and the reactions from the crowd often felt just as big as what was happening onstage. Between the singing, screaming, phones in the air and people dancing throughout the arena, there wasn't much of a quiet moment.
By the end of the night, PPG Paints Arena felt less like a massive sports venue and more like one giant room filled with people who all came to experience the same thing. Between the huge singalongs, flower-filled stage, production, and the sheer energy coming from the crowd, Rodrigo turned night 1 of her Pittsburgh stop into much more than a standard arena concert and gave fans a night that was as much about the experience as it was the music.
